Fall Classic Game 7 Draws Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The thrilling 11-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51 million viewers across the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball stated this is the highest-rated Fall Classic finale since the 1991 edition showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest averaged 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the last finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the climactic game drew over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12M. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series averaged 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the complete US viewership was 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to the previous year and the network’s best playoff ratings since 2017.

MLB announced that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
